Now that you've put everything together, you're past all the difficult stages—the rest is a cakewalk. Here's how to install your operating system and get everything. This tutorial will show you how to to reinstall Windows 10/8.1/8/7/vista without a CD/DVD or USB drive by using free Windows deployment tool WinToHDD. How to Reinstall Windows 7 Without CD. Occasionally, Windows operating systems need to be reinstalled to improve or restore function. Although most Windows PCs come. Edit Article wiki How to Reinstall Windows XP Without the CD. Sometimes manufacturers do not include the Windows XP Operating System CD when you first buy your new. Windows 10, XP, 8, 7, Vista, 2000, Me, 98, 95 and windows Reinstall, Upgrade, Repair, Refresh. Reinstall Windows Without Losing Your Data. How did things get this messed up? Windows has slowed to a crawl. Programs won't run. The free firewall you installed last year won't update or uninstall itself. System Restore hasn't helped; neither have your assorted cleanup and antimalware programs. Only one option remains: Reinstall Windows and start from scratch. I'm not going to lie to you- -this is a scary and time- consuming job. Your PC may be unusable for a day or more. You could even lose all of your data. And let's face it: You'd be wise to avoid this chore if at all possible. If someone in tech support tells you to do it, get a second opinion, and then a third. If you have to reinstall- -and sometimes it is necessary- -here's how to make the process as safe and painless as possible. Gather What You Need. You'll have to collect a few things before you can begin. First, you'll need your recovery tool. What's that? If you're using the version of Windows that came on your PC, it's probably in a hidden partition on the computer's hard drive. That partition contains the information necessary to restore the hard drive to its factory condition. Obviously, a hard- drive partition is not something you have to gather. But if your PC is a few years old, the recovery tool may be on one or more CDs or DVDs instead. Find the discs that came with your PC and see if anything looks promising. Alternatively, check the PC's manual to learn what kind of recovery tool came with the machine, and, if it's on a partition, how to access it. If you upgraded Windows since you bought the PC- -for instance, going from XP or Vista to Windows 7- -the upgrade disc is now your recovery tool. If you can't find a recovery disc, and the PC has no hidden partition (or offers no workable way to access that partition), contact the system manufacturer to see what they can do for you. Collect all the original discs or downloaded installation files, and all of your license numbers. You'll want an empty external hard drive with a capacity at least as large as your existing hard drive. Another external hard drive will come in handy later. That one doesn't have to be empty; you'll need only a part of it. Finally, you'll need time. The best- case scenario for a reinstall is a day. The worst case: three or four days. You'll be spending a lot of that time waiting, so get a good book, too. Back Up Everything. Things could go horribly wrong, so you need to make a backup of your entire drive. That way, you can at least return to where you were before the reinstall. You also have to create a backup of your data, because the reinstall might destroy everything on your hard drive. EASEUS Todo Backup lets you clone your hard drive. To manage both tasks, use cloning software to turn the empty external drive into an exact copy of your internal hard drive. I recommend EASEUS Todo Backup, which performs both image backups and cloning. For this job, I recommend the cloning because it will make the later job of restoring the data files easier. On the other hand, an image backup doesn't require an external drive all to itself (although it will require a large piece of one). Either option will work. Be sure to create an emergency boot disc with EASEUS or whatever program you use to do the cloning. Without that, you may not be able to recover from a disaster. Having a second backup of your data wouldn't hurt, especially since you're about to erase the original. If you don't already have another up- to- date backup, create one with whatever backup program you regularly use. The Windows Reinstall. Exactly how you replace an old Windows installation with a new one depends on your recovery tool. If your PC came with a recovery partition on the hard drive, find the instructions for booting into the repair environment. Watch the screen as you turn on the computer; it might show a message such as 'Press F1. Repair'. If it doesn't, check the manual or call technical support. If your recovery tool is a disc, boot the PC from it. Either way, follow the prompts. If your recovery tool is an actual Microsoft Windows disc, the tool will ask what kind of installation to perform. You want the kind that gives you a fresh version of Windows. For Windows 7 or Vista, when the wizard asks about the type of installation, select the Custom (advanced) option. For XP, at the 'Welcome to Setup' screen, press Enter to Continue, not R for Repair. Setting Up Windows. Congratulations: You have a fresh Windows installation. Now the hard work starts. Remember that Windows will need updating. The patching will happen automatically, but if you want to get it out of the way, launch Windows Update and take care of it. You'll have to reinstall at least some of your drivers. You can go back to the discs that came with your PC, printer, scanner, and so on, or you can download newer versions off the Internet. Alternatively, you can install the drivers off the clone you made before reinstalling. Revo Uninstaller lets you purge every last trace of an old app. If you reinstalled Windows from a vendor- supplied tool- -one that returns your hard drive to its factory condition- -you probably have a lot of junk on your computer. You'll have to uninstall the stuff you don't want. The uninstallers that come with Windows applications are notoriously sloppy, leaving all sorts of remnants behind. I recommend either Revo Uninstaller or Total Uninstall. These programs run the application's own uninstaller, and then clean up the remaining mess. Total Uninstall isn't free, but it has some features Revo lacks. The difference? Revo is free, but Total does a better job with uninstalls that require a reboot. Also, Revo doesn't work with 6. Total does. Now that you've cleaned Windows of unwanted applications, you have to reinstall the programs you do want. Start with your security tools, and go from there. Don't try to install two programs at the same time, and if an installation requires a reboot, don't put that reboot off. Just do it. Once everything is installed, take some time to make Windows your own. Pick your wallpaper, change your power and screensaver settings, and so on.

Windows 7 vs Windows Vista - Difference and Comparison Speed and Performance of Windows 7 vs Windows Vista Windows 7 has better speed and performance compared to Windows Vista. In addition to setting the colors of the window chrome and desktop background, themes in Windows 7 include a sound set, and desktop slideshow settings. The default theme is titled . In Windows 7, the sidebar has been removed, while gadgets can still be placed on the desktop. System Restore is a Windows feature that can help fix certain types of crashes and other computer problems. Here’s how it works, how to set it up, and how to use it. Microsoft recently released a preview of Windows 10. The new OS looks to unify the user experience across different platforms, but how does it compare to Windows 8? I have been around the Linux community for more than 10 years now. From the very beginning, I have known that there are basic differences between Linux and Windows. Windows 7 is the latest operating system released by Microsoft. Windows 7 was released to manufacturing on July 22, 2009. Windows 7 codename was Blackcomb. Windows 7 adds a Windows Media Center gadget to the default collection while removing the Contacts and Notes gadgets. Searching in a library automatically federates the query to the remote systems, in addition to searching on the local system, so that files on the remote systems are also searched. Unlike search folders, Libraries are backed by a physical location which allows files to be saved in the Libraries. The default action to take is now configurable through the Taskbar and Start Menu Properties window. A smaller taskbar size is also available. Running applications are denoted by a border frame around the icon. The Windows 7 taskbar is more application- oriented than window- oriented, and therefore doesn't show window titles (these are instead shown when an icon is clicked if there are multiple windows, or hovered over). For more CNET videos, go to http://cnettv.cnet.com. If you skipped over Windows Vista like so many others have, you may be in for a shock when you upgrade from Windows XP to Windows 7. Microsoft’s newest operating. Applications can now be pinned to the taskbar allowing the user instant access to the applications they commonly use. The user can close any windows opened by clicking the X on the corresponding thumbnail preview. The name of the window is also shown in the thumbnail previews. Another new feature added is the ability to get a . Each application will have unique jump lists which will correspond to the features unique to the application. However, there is now the Aero Peek button. If the button is clicked, all applications are minimized, and when clicked again, they are restored. The standard Volume, Network, Power and Action Center (now renamed . In addition to being able to configure whether the application icons are shown, the ability to hide each application's notification balloons has been added. The user can then view the notifications at a later time. Dragging a window to the left or right of the screen makes it take up half the screen allowing the user to tile two windows next to each other. All other windows will minimize, while the window the user shook stays active on the screen. When the window is shaken again, they are all restored, similar to desktop preview. Win+Shift+Left and Win+Shift+Right move the current window to the left or right display. Win+P shows an . Taskbar. Shift + Click, or Middle click starts a new instance of the application, regardless of whether it's already running. If the icon being clicked on is a grouped icon, the classic menu with Restore All / Minimize All / Close All menu is shown. As with Windows Vista, the collection of installed fonts is shown in a Windows Explorer window, but fonts from the same font family appear as . The Font dialog box. Both of these are integrated with Windows Explorer, and together provide a simplified view of what devices are connected to the computer, and what capabilities they support. Unlike the Device Manager Control Panel applet, which is still present, the icons shown on the Devices and Printers screen is limited to components of the system that a non- expert user will recognize as plug- in devices. For example, an external monitor connected to the system will be displayed as a device, but the internal monitor on a laptop will not. When a device such as a portable music player is connected to the system, the device appears as an icon on the task bar, as well as in Windows Explorer. Opening the icon presents a window that displays actions relevant to that device. Device status information such as free memory and battery life can also be shown. A video demonstrating the multi- touch capabilities was later made available on the web. VHD files can be mounted as drives, created, and booted from, in the same way as WIM files. Furthermore, an installed version of Windows 7 can be booted and run from a VHD drive, even on non- virtual hardware, thereby providing a new way to multi boot Windows. Such devices can be protected by a passphrase, a recovery key, or be automatically unlocked on a computer. Posso Software de recupera. Software Recupera. Software de recupera. One of the most highly touted aspects of Vista/Win. These are valuable resources that can instead be devoted to your audio software. If you have a powerful enough video card, then it will assume all video processing; in that case, it is fine to leave Aero enabled. The default setting is to devote more to your programs. This seems good on the surface; however, audio drivers run in the background, not as separate programs. In order to get the most performance from audio gear, it is best to set your processor to handle background services first. This is a technology that was originally developed in Windows XP and is now a part of Vista/Win. While great in theory, DEP can sometimes see audio applications as . This will disable the Windows Aero theme. If you would like to enable it again, right- click on the desktop and choose Personalize > Theme > Windows Vista/Win. Resource usage from the Vista/Win. It works by automatically powering down, or “hibernating,” one or more components of the computer system when the computer has been idle for a predetermined amount of time. This can pose a major problem for users who record long sessions, as the computer may power itself down in the middle of recording! This can often be problematic for USB drivers that run in the background, since background tasks are not given power priority by the OS. If you use USB interfaces or controllers, then you should disable this power- management scheme. Go to the Device Manager > Universal Serial Bus Controllers > right- click on a . It is beneficial for preventing unwanted changes to the system, especially for protecting against unauthorized installations and file executions. However, the constant prompts asking to allow or deny access can interfere with overall workflow; all activity is suspended while the prompt waits for a reply. Having a slow computer is what most Windows users lament. Sometimes it's just a matter of outdated hardware and a few bucks for a new motherboard or an extra GB of. Furthermore, user- account monitoring uses extra CPU cycles (albeit an almost negligible amount), so disabling the feature improves performance ever so slightly. All in all, the impediments in a DAW seem to outweigh the added security, especially if the system is kept off the Internet. To disable UAC, go to Start > Control Panel > User Accounts (your account) > . If this is the case, then follow the manufacturer’s instructions. It is great for keeping out intruders, spyware, viruses, etc., but does so at the cost of CPU cycles. If you are online, it is best to leave the Security Center alone and active. Otherwise, you risk losing data, the integrity of your system drive, and even your identity. If you are not online with your Vista/Win. DAW, then disabling the Security Center features will free up some extra resources for you. There are several adjustments to be made from the Security Center window. Click on Windows Update on the left- hand pane > Change Settings > Never Check for Updates.. You can manually scan at any time by pressing the . Again, this is not an issue if you're offline. To stop these reminders, go to . Before doing so, it is highly recommended that you reenable everything in the Security center, and also connect immediately to Windows Update for the latest security updates from Microsoft. While not included as part of the Security Center, antivirus software is another near- necessity for everyday computing. For the online DAW user, it is best to disable antivirus software before using any audio applications. Since you will not be actively online, Windows Firewall and Defender (provided they are up to date) will be enough to monitor the background. For the offline DAW user, it's best to not install it in the first place. While it is a fantastic tool to prevent theft and piracy, the added encryption is not suitable for a high- performance DAW. It is best to leave Bit. Locker off on any drive that will actively be running DAW applications or streaming audio. However, for backup and non- DAW- related drives, it is fine to leave it enabled. To adjust Bit. Locker on your drives, go to Start > Control Panel > Control Panel Home > Security > Bit. Locker Drive Encryption. The downside is that hard drives invariably process data slower than RAM does, so using paging files decreases performance. This can be beneficial for low- performance, high- data applications where lots of material is loaded into RAM but does not need to be processed extremely quickly. With audio applications, this is not a good idea because they are very demanding on system resources, so using a lower- speed hard drive is not a viable solution. However, some applications may require the use of a paging file, for one reason or another. If this is the case, then make sure to set all of your buffer sizes in your audio application as high as possible to compensate for the hard drive's latency. This will bring you to the Advanced tab in the System Properties window. Under the Performance section, go to Settings tab and select Advanced, the press the . Once all drives have been modified, choose . Examples would be 2. MB, 5. 12 MB, and 1. MB. There is no need to exceed the amount of physical RAM installed for a paging file. If you find yourself continually needing to increase the paging file size, it is probably time to upgrade your system RAM. It essentially uses a USB flash drive as a high- speed paging file. Not all flash drives will work, though. A device must have the following minimum specifications. The device must be at least 6. MB. The device must be USB 2. It has to be able to read at 3. MB/s. It has to be able to write at 2. MB/s. To activate Ready. Boost on a USB flash drive, go to Computer > right- click on the drive > Properties > Ready. Boost > select . As with paging files, it is best to stay with multiples of 2. If power is interrupted to the hard drive, then the risk of data loss or corruption is greatly increased, but if you use a battery backup or some other type of uninterruptible power supply, you should not have anything to worry about. To speed up your drives, navigate to the Device Manager. Click on the . DMA is one of them. This format is the best and fastest method available, so it is recommended for audio. To make sure DMA is enabled on your hard drives, go to the Device Manager > IDE ATA/ATAPI Controllers. You will see one or more ATA Channels. On each channel, right- click and choose Properties > Advanced Settings > make sure . In some cases, changing this listing (which varies according to the motherboard) to . Note, however, that this is not a required step to optimize your system. It is an optional step that mayincrease performance. If you choose to do this, then right- click on it and choose . You have to restart your computer for this change to take effect. These can be accessed by going to Computer and right- clicking on the drive in question, and. Under the General tab, make sure . Too many files in these locations, especially when the files change often, causes the indexing service to add to the overall CPU load. While this change speeds up your overall performance, it will also adversely affect your searching speed in those locations. However, with a good file- management strategy, this will be irrelevant for the DAW user. To adjust your indexing options, go to Start > type in . Examples include built- in wireless adapters, audio cards, and Web cams. Most of these are benign but some have the potential to interfere with digital- audio software and hardware. Historically speaking, the most problematic devices are wireless Internet cards and audio cards; we typically recommend disabling these, at least while using your software. Onboard wireless Internet cards periodically send and receive information when activated (even without a Web browser open), and these bursts of data transfer use CPU cycles to the point of causing audible pops and clicks in DAW applications. Onboard audio cards can cause driver conflict problems, and they generally are not as high in quality as professional interfaces. In addition, they are often selected as the default driver in most DAW applications, forcing you to manually select your primary interface instead. Internet and other wireless cards are typically found under the . Onboard audio cards and Web cams will be found under . They also take up very useful CPU cycles. For the serious DAW user, it's best to have Sidebar disabled, at least while working on audio. This will not only allow extra CPU power, it will also clear the desktop to make room for applications to be seen. If Sidebar is active, double- click on the icon in the system tray and uncheck . Unfortunately, some of the popular settings can interfere with DAW workflow. On resume, display logon screen does not occur. You're welcome Doug.- - Regards,Ramesh Srinivasan, Microsoft MVP .
